I am a city girl.  I was born in a city.  I spent my early childhood in that city.  I grew to adulthood in another city.  I became a mother in that city.  I raised my children in yet another city.  I live in still another city now.  We delude ourselves when we think cities are separate from nature.  Humans build cities and humans can never be separate from nature.  Our very lives depend on nature.  The thought that we have any separate existence is merely a delusion.

I am a child of the Earth.  My ancestors are of the Earth.  My earliest memories are of looking out the window of our apartment and seeing boats on the water.  As a child, I looked for faeries in the garden.  In college, I learned the science of the Earth.  I have been conditioned (as is customary in the society of the US) to ignore the Earth but it cannot be done.  She has pulled me back. Again and again.  And I have vowed to never forget her again.
